Public Deer Hunting Program

In the summer of 2024, City Council heard a presentation from Missouri Department of Conservation Staff pertaining to effective ways to humanely deal with a growing and somewhat problematic deer population in Rolla.

On October 21, 2024, the City Council passed Resolution #2046 to allow a managed Deer Hunt program on five (5) City owned properties for an abbreviated season, lasting from November 27, 2024 – January 15, 2025. In this first season five (5) deer were harvested, four (4) doe and one (1) buck.

On April 7, 2025, City Council passed Resolution #2062 to allow a managed Deer Hunt program for the 2025-2026 season. In this season thirteen (13) deer were harvested, twelve (12) does and one (1) buck.

On June 15, 2026, City Council passed Resolution #2091 to allow a managed Deer Hunt Program.

Each hunter allowed to hunt on city property shall be required to follow all Missouri Department of Conservation regulations, including obtaining the appropriate hunting license. Deer: Archery | Missouri Department of Conservation

Each season hunters are required to attend a class consisting of an educational PowerPoint on the rules and regulations.

Classes for the 2026-2027 seasons will be held at City Hall in the City Council Chambers on the following dates:

Tuesday August 18, 2026 at 7:30 am

Wednesday August 19, 2026 at 5:30 pm

Wednesday August 26, 2026 at 7:30 am

Thursday August 27, 2026 at 5:30 pm
